SINGAPORE: After spending S$400,000 ($240,964) to come up with a suitable new name for the revamped downtown Marina Bay, Singapore has decided to stick to, well, Marina Bay, media reports said yesterday.

The city-state’s urban development authorities and global branding company Interbrand spent months deliberating over 400 potential names before settling on the original moniker, according to the Today newspaper.

The S$400,000 financed a massive branding exercise that involved market tests, focus group discussions and consultations with developers and the general public, Today said.

....

“We started off with (the name) Marina Bay and after looking at everything, the name that really tugged at the heartstrings was in front of us,” Mah said.

WAH LAU!

*/ME hands Mr Mah a piece of Paris Miki spectacle cloth to clean his glasses.*
Can I have my change back for S$399,995 please?

eh.. eh... actually thats not the funniest part. how come i couldnt find this article at Straits Times har? Must be the search function faulty, led me to Singaporenews.net which in turn linked the story from a QATAR newspaper agency.

wah hiong.

S$400,000 I think at least can cover 1-2 NKF patients for the rest of their lives?

I wonder if the marketing executive in charge of this project fiasco got fired or not.

Edit:

As you may know, dialysis is extremely expensive. It costs us $2,600 to treat a single kidney patient on dialysis and $312,000 to keep the patient alive for 10 years.

ok my bad. $400,00 can only last a patient for 10 years. maybe after the new accounting board is done with the P/L sheet of NKF, maybe this might work out to 30 years.
